7 Ways  to stay focused over EASTER BREAK: COVID 19 VERSION.

Easter, a time for family, travel, a break from work, and chocolates. Lots of delicious sweet treats! We know it!  

Raw Lifestyle thought we would just check in, and provide a few tips to keep you on track and to avoid those calorie temptations while at home over EASTER weekend!

TIPS + Tricks!

Let's start with the chocolate temptations shall we...?

1. SUBSTITUTE REFINED SUGAR AND PROCESSED EASTER TREATS WITH HOMEMADE FANCY PROTEIN BALLS OR NUTRITIOUS PROTEIN BARS

Whilst everyone is eating away on their 10+ Easter eggs, why not try and indulge in a delicious protein bar?  There are so many delicious chocolate protein snacks and raw treats out there! 

With more time at home and in then kitchen, it's time to get creative and make your own protein balls! We created a fantastic bliss ball recipe that we know you'll definitely enjoy! 

These are simple to make, don't require cooking. Mix them up and be creative, but be sure to use healthy ingredients!

8 Medjool datesprotein balls

1 1/2 Cup almond meal

1/2 Cup shredded coconut, plus 1/3 Cup extra for rolling

1/3 Cup coconut oil

1 Tbs nut butter

1/3 Cup cacao powder

1 Tbs chia seeds

Place dates in a medium bowl and cover with water. You want to soften them. Stand for 1 hour. Drain and discard seeds if they are not pitted.

Place all ingredients in a food processor- blend until smooth, ensure no large chunks.

Prepare a bowl on the side with the remaining shredded coconut. (This is to roll the balls in)

Using your hands (washed and clean of course) roll up into balls and roll in the extra coconut that's in the side bowl. Once covered in the coconut - place  onto baking tray that is lined with baking paper.

Place in freezer and once cold store in jar in refrigerator for up to a week.

Trust us, they are delicious so they won't last that long!

2. KEEP ROUTINE- Do you have a meal plan in place?

 •STICK TO 3 HEALTHY MEALS AND 2 HEALTHY SNACKS THROUGHOUT EASTER BREAK

One chocolate won't kill you, as long as it's not a 1 metre Toblerone !

A sweet treat is fine, as long as the rest of your meals and snacks are on point during Easter, then it is ok to cheat slightly!

 The trick is to ensure you get enough nutrients in your meals throughout the day. Hitting your proteins is vital! 

This way, you're still being healthy and not replacing nutrients necessary for your body to function and repair itself with sugar and chocolate.

3. KEEP YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE AND  A FOOD DIARY

Recording what you eat can really help put things in perspective.  Measuring your macros, or calorie counting is extremely beneficial to learn about whats actually in your foods. We use My Fitness Pal can really help you out in keeping track of your eating plans and seeing if you've reached your macros. Old fashioned paper diaries work great too! Personal I've learnt so much about what I was doing wrong in my eating, my breakfast alone was eggs, avocado and salmon and basically all my fats for the day! Now wiser food choices have seen results! Its great education, and keeps your accountable and also knowing what you can eat for the remainder of the day. Keeping a food diary is the same as a training plan – they act as a plan, or a guide and actually work!

4. SCHEDULE A WORKOUT EVERY DAY DURING THE EASTER BREAK!

Not only for physical health but mental health is this important!  Keeping sane during this time is helped by physical exercise! Trust us! You'll feel so much better after! An instant mood lifter!

5. FOCUS ON SPENDING YOUR TIME WITH LOVED ONES

Instead of focusing all your attention on the temptations, bring your attention to your loved ones, or those in your house. Focus on really being present with them and feeling grateful. Easter is a time to get together. And by getting together we mean on Zoom calls. Try reaching out to someone you haven't in ages, its probably time for that catch up! Also gives you those good feels after, for both of you!

 6. STAY HYDRATED – DRINK PLENTY OF WATER... NOT WINE 😊

Try sipping on water before you fall into any  sweet temptations (or eating a piece of fruit). You may not really NEED that chocolate.

A lot of times we  crave sugar and consume sweets simply because we are thirsty 

Pro tip: Keep your favourite water bottle with you throughout the entire day and be sure to keep refilling it. Add lemon or cucumber, makes all the difference! Also water and hyrdration is so good for your skin! 😊

7. CELEBRATE YOUR WINS

Feeling good about yourself and focusing on the small things, will motivate you to keep going. Every time you do make a healthy choice, celebrate it! Each time you have eaten something healthy or decided to avoid eating something unhealthy, you have made a choice to be healthier and to take care of yourself more. It will also reduce any feelings of guilt which are never helpful in any situation.
